Little Malia likes the big drums

Mar 3, 2006

I’d promised the girls that I’d take them to hear the Triangle Taiko drummers tonight, but with Anna sick, it was just me and Malia driving to the nearby National Humanities Center. She was enthralled by the booming drums, and as we pulled into the driveway, she declared, “That was fun.”

Tonight was the first time I’d heard taiko since Erin and I saw the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble at the Hawaii Theatre back in November 2000 (the night before, my dad took us to the theater to see Willie K and Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom). Now that I know there’s taiko in the Triangle—and that Malia enjoys the rhythms—I’ll be watching this page for their next concerts.
