Listening in the car

Feb 20, 2006

Some great radio documentaries today, a couple of which I listened to in my dark car on my way into the office for a few hours of work.

  • Finding a Voice about making up languages, losing languages and reviving languages. I especially enjoyed the segments about Ladino and Maori, which offered some great musical listening, with old Bulgarian Jewish ladies singing in the Spanish-based Ladino and the chanting of a New Zealand duo.
  • Mandela: An Audio History, about the great South African freedom fighter’s decades in prison, and
  • Thurgood Marshall Before the Court, about the great American freedom fighter’s courtroom successes in arguing down our nation’s own apartheid.
