On the court

Ever seen the movie Airplane? In that hilarious film is a sendup of Peace Corps Volunteers, with the man “teaching” the natives to play a game called basketball and the women extolling the virtues of Tupperware. Well, another picture that I encountered in the photo album today (see previous message) relates to that scene in Airplane: one of Erin’s ideas on Paama was to get a basketball hoop shipped to us, and we worked with one of the craftsmen in the village to create a court on the abandoned cement foundation behind our house. Once the hoop was up, the court was constantly occupied by schoolkids bouncing the ball and shooting for the sky. We had loads of fun. Here’s proof:
