A nasty cold virus has laid me low this weekend, adding me to the ranks of the sick in our house that includes Erin, Malia and Anna. That’s all of us. Snot sucks.

“If history is our guide, we can assume that the battle between the intellect and will of the human species and the extraordinary adaptability of microbes will be never-ending.”

At least we’re not beseiged by other, nastier microbes. Anthony Fauci and others wrote an excellent and informative perspective article in the latest Emerging Infectious Diseases journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases: a 10-Year Perspective from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. It’s short and fairly easy to understand; do read it.
