On Studio 360 today, Kurt Anderson talked with the travel writer Pico Iyer about airports, a topic I’m always interested in; I wrote here that when I was in the Peace Corps, my most homesick days had me pining to be in an American airport. As Iyer and Anderson discuss, airports are being designed to be ethereal spaces that simultaneously offer all the shops and dining and living experiences busy travelers miss when they’re away from home. Have you seen the film Terminal, where Tom Hanks plays a foreigner marooned in the arrivals hall of JFK airport?
