When words collide

Some great reading material has gathered in my arms today:

• Was Darwin Wrong? in the November 2004 National Geographic.

• The Choice, a long editorial that is The Talk of the Town in the November 1, 2004 New Yorker. As would be expected of this outstanding magazine, the endorsement of John Kerry is perfectly written, cogently argued and unnecessary to resist.

• U2’s Unforgettable Fire in the November 2004 issue of Vanity Fair. Here’s the money quote: “Great hangs back until very good gets tired. Who wants a good, or even very good, U2 record right now?” – Bono on what must be a great album coming next month.

• Deus ex Machina, the new comic story by Brian K. Vaughan.

• Living to Tell the Tale, Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s first memoir.
