Ethics in journalism

Sep 21, 2004

Don’t bother asking me what I think about Dan Rather’s rather unfortunate saga over at CBS News; I’m busy rereading Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains, that wonderful profile of Dr. Paul Farmer. Kidder’s book is gripping, thought-provoking, sensitive and ethical—the perfect antidote to the convulsions wracking the world of American journalism these days.

Farmer’s life, and Kidder’s writing, inspire me. They are changing the world.

I caught my breath this morning when I read that Farmer and Kidder will appear together in Durham and Chapel Hill next week. It’s not everday I get the chance to see a hero and a saint together on the same stage.

Here are the details (from the Partners in Health site)
