I finished reading Mountains Beyond Mountains today – with the last few pages as I walked up one of the hills toward campus, just as Paul Farmer, the protagonist of this book by Tracy Kidder, hikes for hours in the Haitian hills to get to a dirt-poor young child who needs medical attention. I’m in need of some physical recuperation myself, at the moment, with a cold coming on, so I’ll make this a short post to promise a longer, more introspective essay about how inspiring Farmer is and how beautiful Kidder’s story is.
