Ready, set, go
Aug 27, 2003
My semester started today, with two classes – Environmental Health 101, Specialized Reporting 254 – and JOMC 50, for which I am a teaching assistant. It feels great to be back, like being back in the batter’s box after a winter off the diamond. The pitches will be coming at me faster and faster, I’m sure. Here’s an overview of what I hope to accomplish:
- HIV – My other two classes, HIV in Developing Countries and Science Documentary Television, will have me focused on HIV/AIDS, and by next spring I hope to pull off an HIV/AIDS awareness program for the j-school (see my earlier post)
- SARS – In 254, I’ll begin my thesis project, a series of reports about SARS and another infectious disease tbd
- 5e – an improved 5e – The Fifth Estate site and an active team of editors and reporters producing that online magazine
- THB – Lots of Tar Heel Bloggers activities in the pipeline, to promote weblogging on campus
- J50 – Success in my labs, where I’ll teach 40 undergrads about online research and website design
- Travel – a few conferences to hit, on obesity, genetics, narrative journalism
- BZ2 – Baby Z number 2 arrives sometime in December
