On Thursday, I was the “guest speaker” for my newswriting class. My instructor, Donald Shaw, asked me to talk about my deep interest in the New Yorker Magazine and about some of the changes I’ve seen in it over my 10 years as a subscriber. Of course, I took the opportunity to mention my admiration for my favorite writers: Malcolm Gladwell, Susan Orlean, Michael Specter and Atul Gawande.
The New York Times Magazine today includes William Safire on the phrase popularized by Gladwell in his excellent book The Tipping Point. See what Safire found out about the history of ‘tipping point’.
