Reloaded

May 20, 2003

I thought of Joe LoCascio tonight as I saw The Matrix: Reloaded, Mr. LoCascio was my high school English teacher, and he once drew a triangle on the chalkboard. One tip he labeled ‘fate,’ another ‘chance’ and the final tip ‘choice.’ I’ve thought long and hard about that triangulation, and how fate, chance and choice have channelled my life. The Matrix continues that. It’s also got a good line about how we can’t live without machines. Even when I was closest to living a machine-free lifestyle on Paama Island, I relied on my solar panel-powered shortwave radio for news and entertainment. My choice, though.
