The Republican Party is in the active process of devolving government power in this country to the states, and George Bush is actively gutting the federal social safety programs that helped make this country truly compassionate. Last night, it dawned on me that at least 4 governors are part of the current executive administration: Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge (Pennsylvania), EPA Administrator Christie Todd Whitman (New Jersey), Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson (Wisconsin) and President George Bush himself (Texas). Interesting how such stong states’ rights advocates don’t mind jumping to the federal level.
