JFK and PC

Nov 11, 2002

John Fitzgerald Kennedy Library Home Page This weekend I was in Boston for the Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism, and after breakfast with the Boston Globe health reporter, I stopped in at the JFK Library. I wasn’t prepared for the emotion of the place. Of course, I have strong feeling for President Kennedy. When I came upon an exhibit about the birth of the Peace Corps and Kennedy’s role in the agency, I had tears in my eyes. I stood in that room and thought about my father as a young man enlisting with the Peace Corps, and how that had a direct consequence on my enlisting with the Peace Corps 34 years later. Thank you, JFK, and thank you, Dad.
