Amidst my studies tonight, a flurry of phone calls: Mom called to tell me Nick is hoping to apply for a firefighting job back home in DeKalb. (I talked to Nick last week, a day after he broke his hand and a week or so after he got back from fighting the big forest fire in Oregon.) Then Joel called to announce that his bit part in the community-theater production of Sherwood has been upgraded to the opening solo of the musical. He won’t be wearing tights—green sweats, he says—but let’s hope he hits those high notes. Matt’s back in DeKalb for his junior year at Northern Illinois University, and after some housing problems, he and his roommate have a pad. Good luck to all my brothers.
