Last night, Tom and I ducked out of the warm house to visit the Old Town School of Folk Music, where we heard Urban Folk Collective, a young band from Detroit that offered up some very talented singing, poetic songwriting and nimble guitar picking. I’d told Tom that my goal for my summer Chicago stay was to catch live music whenever possible. This weekend, the annual Chicago Blues Festival starts down in Grant Park; I also learned today that Natalie Merchant, a singer I admire, will perform in June in Tinley Park.
