An imagination

The Real Life of Anna V. Here’s an essay by Colum McCann, a fantastic Irish writer who lives in New York. McCann wrote the novel This Side of Brightness, an engrossing novel about the heights and depths of New York City and how madness finds a place there. I first read this novel on Paama, and I passed around the book to nearly a dozen other Peace Corps Volunteers. Each person who read it signed his or her name inside the cover; I hope that it’s still making the rounds of bored Volunteers waiting out another rainstorm in the tropics. I’ve also given this book as a gift to many of my brothers and friends, and I’d give it to you, too, but I’m a bit short on cash at the moment. Still, read it if you can get a copy at your local library or independent bookstore.
