Medical sleuths investigate rash—Little Anna had roseola two weeks ago, and her cousin, Lily, also little, had quite a rash. Now we read that in seven states (though not ours, North Carolina and Texas) a strange rash has run through schools. This is the type of story that intrigues me, and it builds my interest in medical journalism. I learned recently that I’m a finalist for a Roy Park Fellowship at UNC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication; these generous fellowships provide tuition and fees and other benefits. I have an interview on March 2, and I’ll point to this story about a new rash to explain why I want to study medical journalism at UNC.
