From seeing to knowing Tom Haines stopped in for two nights late last year, as he and Julie Braun (Erin’s cousin, and Tom’s wife) toured the South looking for a place to call home. In the end, they decided on Boston, where Julie will attend music school; Tom landed a job as the Boston Globe’s new travel writer. Here’s his debut piece. As you’ll see, he is an excellent writer. Watch this space for his future columns, and we’ll travel the world with him as our guide. Congratulations to Tom and Julie, also, for announcing their expected arrival of a child later this year.
