While my father is soaking up the Caribbean sun on St. Croix, I’m jailed in my apartment in cold Cleveland. Thing I hate most about winter is the mummifying effect it has on my skin. I’m constantly rubbing in hand lotion, but still I’m drying out. I was deeply touched yesterday by a gift my father gave to me, and my mother and four brothers. Dad worked all year to compile photographs of the family in all its stages and in all its locations. The result is a family history that I will cherish forever. Some of the pictures from my childhood were new to me. Other photographs brought back wonderful memories of Idaho and Phoenix and Illinois. Thank you, Dad, for a gift that recalled many Christmases and will warm many more to come.
