Right moves
John Edwards meets some bloggers locally. Here and here.
Gotta admit, I’m sorely disappointed that I didn’t get ‘invited’ to this event, even with my previous posting that I wanted the opportunity to meet Edwards at such a conversation. And this disappointment comes at the end of a day in which I’ve pulled together details for the Chapel Hill Bloggers Meetup and even more details about the soon-to-be-announced Triangle Science Blogging Conference. WTF am doing all this for?
Answering my own question: I do it because I like knowing the bloggers in this region, and getting to know these bloggers as people. On my way to a fantastic discussion of MySpace by Danah Boyd’ talk this afternoon, I ran into Corey and CC, who told me they’ll be having a baby in February. Congrats to them. At the talk, I sat next to Deb Aikat, met Doug Edmunds , chatted with Kirk Ross and Bret Dougherty, thanked Paul Jones for his advice on the sciblog conference, and nodded to a few others.
And the sciblog conference is going to be very interesting. I’m excited about this.
So, day’s coming to an end, my two-year-old daughter is screaming, I may be coming down with a cold, and work is intense. I need a night in bed with a few magazines, a glass of port and no friggin’ Internet in sight.
EDIT: Geez, twice in one day I get counseled I’ve overreacted. My frustration above is my own doing—I’ve got so many ideas and projects that I’m a bit overextended. To my friends and colleageues in the North Carolina community of blogger, I love you all. See you at the next event.

You have every right to be pissed. I am, too.
— coturnix Sep 14, 11:17 PM #Anton, I’m sure that it’s an oversight Anglico and the others will make sure Edwards won’t make again.
Same for Bora, who’s taken his share of crud for being such a stalwart blogger on Edwards behalf.
Please keep acting as the glue that keeps the local ‘blogging kite flying.
I didn’t expect to be invited (too much a thorn in the local OC Dems side maybe ;-) ) but wouldn’t of made it otherwise as I had a last minute meeting with my neighbors to discuss our neighborhoods future. Not suffering torrents of burglaries – just the first gentle waves of hurricane Carolina North.
— WillR Sep 15, 12:20 AM #First, we love ya Anton! Your hard work is great for the people.
Second, I was surprised not to see you there. I was shocked to be invited. Mainly because we met the Senator before PodcasterCon. I think I was invited this time because of a post I wrote called Mr. Edwards, help teach others to blog. I know you wrote about Winer’s email to Ryan Montoya too.
Rest assured I did my best to let Sen. Edwards know that working on the ground with all bloggers and people is a good way to go. (I phrased it as a micro/macro transition. To think about all the individuals and the world simultaneously.) They know what we are up to and are reading our blogs. That is due in no small part to your hard work here in the Triangle. Keep doing what your doing and it’ll make a real difference.
All that said I think your work is A LOT more important than helping someone win elections. Empowering individuals to communicate with the world effectively is VERY important. I have so much respect for you and will help you with this mission all I can.
Also blog about how ever you feel. Don’t censor yourself. If you are upset, tell us. If you are happy tell us. If you are sad we want to know. I don’t think you’ve been harsh at all. Let your passion drive your writing once in awhile.
— BrianR Sep 15, 08:52 AM #Bora, Will and Brian, thank you for your kind words. You guys know my passion—encouraging people to express themselves and empowering them to share their knowledge. I’m continuously amazed by the people here in NC. Man, just the collection of brains and personalities in the room yesterday at Boyd’s talk was impressive. And that’s what I’ve been trying to celebrate through BlogTogether and other efforts, many of which piggyback on your own passions and initiatives. Thanks for being my friends.
— Anton Zuiker Sep 15, 10:04 AM #It’s good to know that there’s even a blogger community here. Your commitment is evident to a newbie like me. Just keep on doing it.
