Bob Campbell – Wine Words When Erin and I travelled through New Zealand in 1999, Bob Campbell’s annual New Zealand wine guide for Cuisine Magazine (a NZ publication, not the US) was invaluable as we made our way from winery to winery.
Our favorite stop was to Huthlee Estate Vineyard in Hawkes Bay, where we met Devon Lee, the owner and winemaker.
Of the two dozen bottles of wine that we bought on that trip, the Huthlee 1998 Hawke’s Bay Merlot is the only one we have left … but not for long. We’ll be corking it in the next month or two, and when we sip from it, we’ll be thinking back to an afternoon lunch in the campervan parked among vineyards and corrals.
