Just home from Severance Hall, the heavenly concert hall at Cleveland’s University Circle (across from the world-class Cleveland Museum of Art, a wonderful museum I take all visitors), where we heard the Orchestra play Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. Now I’m listening to WKSU, the public radio station out of Kent State University. On weekends the station features folk music, and next weekend it will sponsor the annual 34th Kent State Folk Festival. Can’t wait to hear Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tim O’Brien next Saturday. Tonight’s other concert choice was a performance by the national percussion ensemble of the Republic of Guinea (west Africa, not the South Pacific Papua New Guinea) in Oberlin College’s Finney Chapel. That’s where I saw the African musicians Baaba Maal and Zap Mama in 1997. What a fantastic variety of musical experiences Northern Ohio offers. Care to join me for a concert?
